Abstract
Purpose: Locked metacarpophalangeal joint of the finger is uncommon condition that is characterized by loss of extension of the MP Joint without loss of flexion. Many studies on the etiologies and operative treatments have been reported, but there have been few investigations on manual reduction. Authors evaluated the results of manipulation for locked metacarpophalangeal joint of fingers.

Materials & Methods: Seven patients had locked MP joint of index finger and received manipulation after intraarticular local anesthetic injection. Radiologic findings, clinical symptoms and range of motion were evaluated during follow up.

Results: All patients had minor trauma history and only one patient showed radiological abnormality. All cases were successfully treated with manual reduction and regained full range of motion with no pain at the last follow up.

Conclusion: Our experience suggests that manual reduction should be considered as an initial treatment for locked metacarpophalangeal joint in finger and operative treatment could be limited to patients in whom manual reduction is unsuccessful or the reduction is unstable.
